FAQs

What is HP CultureFest?

HP CultureFest is an international festival held in the Park Cities. It features food, fashion, music, and dance from cultures around the world. The event is a celebration of the cultural heritages of families in our neighborhood, and is produced by the volunteer efforts of these families.

Is the event free?

Yes! The event is free, thanks to the generous contributions of our sponsors, donors, and volunteers. However, registration is required for entry. Register anytime, on our website, HERE.

Who can participate?

Anyone who lives in Highland Park or University Park. Even if your kids attend private school or have graduated from the district you are welcome to connect, collaborate & celebrate.

Why is the event at a church? Is this religiously affiliated?

No, we are not religiously affiliated. There are a limited number of venues in our area that have the capacity for an event our size. We looked into many places, and this year, HP Pres was one of very few that were available. It is also centrally located and is a beautiful space with plenty of parking. Although the event will be at a church venue, the event is NOT religious and is not associated with any religion. HP Pres has graciously welcomed us and we are so grateful.

Is this the same as UP International Night?

No, UP International Night is an event produced by UP Elementary’s PTA for their elementary school. Although HP CultureFest was initially founded by a UP Elementary parent and modeled after UP International Night, it has always been a separate organization. We are all friends, but HP CultureFest is a completely different organization and different event. If you are a Panther family, we encourage you to attend both events--double the fun!

Do I have to be born in the country I would like to represent?

No. Although most people want to represent a country or region because they were born there, it is also encouraged to represent a culture that you have a love for and some knowledge of, based on your travels there or having lived there for a period of time. Other reasons might be that you have a close relative like a grandparent from the country/region.

“I don’t believe that XYZ a 'country' so they shouldn’t be part of the event.”

HP CultureFest is not about countries, geopolitically speaking, or anything political. We are about cultures, which does not have borders. To facilitate a peaceful gathering of people of different views/backgrounds, we intentionally celebrate the more neutral aspects of culture, specifically just food (our favorite!) and the arts (e.g., fashion, music, dance).

“I don't like that XYZ person or country/region is being included and feel they should not participate.”

HP CultureFest does not believe in exclusion, as it is part of our mission to value everyone in our neighborhood, and to foster connections. If there are concerns about anyone's participation, please let us know, so that we can help resolve whatever concerns you may have. We realize that including everyone means some people may feel a bit uncomfortable, but this is a natural part of the process. We are here to promote harmony, and want to help navigate concerns and issues as much as possible.

How can I help the event?

We welcome any adult or high school student living in the Park Cities to host a displaying table, craft table, or a performance. Please click here to sign up. You can also be a sponsor or make a tax-deductible donation to our event!

How can I get involved?

We love this question! There are opportunities to sponsor and volunteer. Stay in touch by signing up for our newsletter. We have lots of smaller events and fun gatherings throughout the year.

I still have questions/concerns about HP CultureFest. Who should I contact?
